NORTH CAROLINA MEMBERS RECEIVE 50 YEAR AWARD
Thursday    September 27, 2005

At the Fall District meeting of the First District of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, State Councilor Mike Marley, from Wilmington, NC, presented 50 year service pins to three very deserving gentlemen. Brothers John Hall, Tom Corley and Gene Pruett, all three from Burkemont Council #44 in Morganton, NC, each received their 50 year pins. State Councilor Marley praised all three gentlemen and challenged all in attendance to follow in their footsteps. 19 gentlemen from Burkemont Council # 44, Black Mountain Council # 145 and several State Council officers enjoyed a delicious “family style” seafood dinner. After dinner the assembled group heard reports from the State Council Officers and the acting President of the Junior Order’s Children’s Home, Mr. Gene Duckworth. The Children’s Home (American Children’s Home) located in Lexington, N.C. since 1925 has long been the flagship of the Junior Order in North Carolina. The Children’s Home is a source of pride for Junior Order members all across North Carolina. Burkemont Council # 44 has been instrumental in the life of the Children’s Home continually since its beginning. Another source of pride for District 1 was that 6 Past State Councilors of the Junior Order were in attendance at the meeting.
